St. Cloud State University President Earl Potter says the school’s thoughts and prayers are with students from Nepal and their families.

The Center for International Students says there are currently 145 Nepalese students enrolled at St. Cloud State University. A magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Nepal early Saturday, about 3,800 have died and more than 6,500 people are injured.

Helping Nepal International and the Nepalese Student Association are working with each other to bring attention and raise money for those affected by the earthquake. They are stationed at kiosks in the Atwood Memorial Center daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. all this week.

As a sign of solidarity, students and the public are invited to a candlelight vigil event held in the Atwood Mall at 6 p.m. this Friday. Students can use the Counseling Services offered to them at SCSU to help cope with grief and stress.
