A 22-month-old boy has died after falling inside his home in St. Cloud Sunday afternoon, prompting a police investigation.

St. Cloud Police Commander Jeff Oxton says officers responded to an unresponsive boy in the 1300 block of University Drive Southeast at 12:50 p.m. The boy was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital and examined and doctors determined he suffered from a substantial head trauma.

He was later taken to the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital for further treatment, but the child died of his injuries. His body was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The Criminal Investigation Division is actively assessing the cause of his death.
