Archived: St. Cloud Woman Arrested On Charges of Fleeing From Police Thursday Morning
A St. Cloud woman was arrested on charges of fleeing a police officer Thursday morning in a pursuit that reached speeds of 60 miles per hour.
St. Cloud Police Assistant Chief Jeff Oxton says an officer was driving westbound across the University Bridge in a squad car when he noticed a vehicle was tailgating him. The officer tried to warn the driver by turning his rear light on, but that didn’t change anything.
The officer then changed lanes and let the driver pass him. He attempted to pull the driver over, but they refused to stop.
The pursuit lasted for three and half miles at a high speed of 60 mph. The driver, 27-year-old Lisa Jean Hamre, finally pulled over in the area of Waite Avenue and Country Road 75. She was taken into custody without incident.
Hamre was first taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for evaluation due to her unusual behavior and then transferred to the Stearns County Jail.
