Archived: St. Francis Man Dies In Snowmobile Accident Near Maple Lake

A St. Francis man is dead after a snowmobile accident in Maple Lake Township early Sunday morning.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office says deputies received a call about a snowmobile accident on Ramsey Lake at 12:50 a.m. Sunday. The accident happened along the shoreline near 5626 33rd Street Northwest.

Deputies say 20-year-old Charles Webb of Maple Lake along with his passenger, 21-year-old Reid Ferguson of St. Francis, were riding a single Polaris snowmobile at a high rate speed. They believe Webb suddenly stopped the snowmobile and both Webb and Ferguson were ejected off the sled.

Both received serious injuries and neither were wearing helmets. When deputies arrived at the scene, they saw other parties performing CPR on Ferguson. They assisted with CPR and administered AED. Maple Lake Rescue arrived on the scene and took over medical treatment but Ferguson was pronounced dead.

Webb received treatment for unknown internal injuries and was taken to Buffalo Hospital and later to North Memorial Hospital. Webb will be booked into the Wright County Jail on charges of criminal vehicular homicide after being released from the hospital.

Law enforcement believes alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the accident.
