A new unwelcomed grass- like algae has made its presence known in two Minnesota lakes.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources confirmed that Starry Stonewort has been found in Lake Koronis and Mud Lake. These lakes are located in both Stearns and Meeker counties, near Paynesville.

Starry Stonewort is an invasive species that was first discovered in the U.S. in 1978, this is the first time it has been found in Minnesota.

The DNR reminds boaters and anglers to clean aquatic plants and animals from watercrafts, drain all water by removing drain plugs and dispose of unwanted bait in the trash.
