Two men were arrested Friday near St. John’s University after fleeing St. Cloud police.

Police Lieutenant Jeff Oxton says officers noticed a stolen Chevy Trailblazer in the 2500 block of 2nd Street North in St. Cloud. Oxton says officers tried to stop the SUV which was stolen from Duluth, but the driver refused to stop and drove to County Road 74. Police pursued the vehicle which headed westbound on Interstate 94.

The pursuit lasted for 15 miles before a mechanical problem forced the driver to pull over near the St. John’s University exit on I-94. The driver and his passenger fled on foot. The passenger was arrested after a short chase by officers. Oxton says officers set up a perimeter and requested assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter which located the driver in a wooded area. A St. Cloud Police K9 and a team of officers arrested 24-year-old Joseph Lee Morrow of Walker.

Oxton says Morrow, the driver, had a hypodermic needle at the time he was arrested. Both of the suspects were taken to the Stearns County Jail. Zupan was booked and released from the jail on the charges of fleeing from police on foot. Morrow is facing unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, fleeing from police on foot, driving after suspension, obstructing legal process and possession of hypodermic needle.

Other than the minor injuries that the suspects received, no one else was hurt.
