Archived: Stearns County Sheriff Warns Of Thin Ice After ATV Goes Through Icy Lake
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office is urging people to use caution while going out onto frozen lakes after a New Ulm man’s ATV fell through the ice this weekend.
Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says deputies along with Paynesville Fire and Rescue and the Paynesville Ambulance were called to the north side of Lake Koronis in Paynesville Township around 2:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Deputies say an A-T-V driven by 49-year-old Mark Guggisberg was partially submerged in the lake. Guggisberg was travelling southwest when he said the sun was in his eyes and he was not able to avoid the unsafe ice.
Guggisberg was not injured and is working on getting his ATV out of the lake.
