Archived: Stearns History Museum, Sinclair Lews Foundation Awarded Large Legacy Grants
Two Central Minnesota counties are receiving more than $127,000 in state arts grants.
The Minnesota Historical Society recently announced 33 “large” historical and cultural heritage grants. Stearns County will receive two of the 33 grants awarded.
A grant of $36,500 is going to the Stearns History Museum to hire a consultant to write an interpretive plan for the museum. The Sinclair Lewis Foundation in Sauk Centre, via Stearns County, is receiving a grant of $34,800 to hire a consultant to develop a historic structure report that will help preserve the Sinclair Lewis Boyhood Home and Carriage House, a place on the National Register of Historic Places. In Kandiyohi County, the Historical Society will get a $56,000 grant for a “3D Collection Inventory” to better organize the museum collections and better access for the public.
The grants, awarded once each fiscal year, are made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment, and more than $3.2 million in grants were recently announced statewide. The Minnesota Historical Society is distributing $11.525 million in fiscal years 2016-17 based on their appropriation from the state legislature in small, medium and large grant cycles.
