Archived: Stolen Mail Recovered After Three Arrested At Motel 6 in Waite Park
Officers were called to the Motel 6 in Waite Park by staff that reported a dispute in the parking lot on Friday, May 15 just before 1 p.m. The details of the incident are just now being made available.
Waite Park Police Department Chief David Bentrud says the motel had requested an unregistered vehicle to be towed from lot. The driver, 38-year-old David Lee Tyson of St. Cloud, became upset when the tow truck arrived, but attempted to drive away from the scene and hit the tow truck on his way.
Bentrud adds Tyson was arrested and taken to Stearns County Jail for misdemeanor reckless driving. 19-year-old Nyapal Tongyik Minyoang of St. Cloud was arrested and booked to Stearns County Jail for gross misdemeanor obstructing legal process and felony possession of a controlled substance. 21-year-old Christopher Paul Sullivan of St. Cloud was arrested and taken to Stearns County Jail on a felony warrant and gross misdemeanor obstructing legal process.
Officers found a large amount of mail in Sullivan’s room in the motel which followed a search warrant of stolen mail from the Rice and Cold Spring area. The recovered mail was given to the United States Postal Inspection Service for investigation. The public is encouraged to contact the Postal Inspection Service at 800-275-8777 if they think their mail has been stolen.
The Postal Service will return the recovered mail over the next several weeks.
