Grants have been awarded to 36 groups in Minnesota to help share the state’s history, including some in Stearns, Morrison and Kanabec counties.

The Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) says grants- up to $10,000- are given to non-profit and educational organizations, government units and tribal organizations.

Among this quarter’s Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Small Grant recipients are: the Kanabec County Historical Society in Mora, the Minnesota Military Museum in Little Falls, and the Paynesville Area Historical Society.

Each grant will be used for a project to preserve and enhance Minnesota’s cultural and historical resources.

In Mora, the historical society received $8,400 to hire an HVAC engineer to improve the museum’s environment. The Minnesota Military Museum will develop a museum lighting plan with a $7,293 award. Finally, with $6,930 Paynesville will hire a qualified historian to research underserved populations in the area.

The MNHS Executive Council approved the recipients on November 13.
