Archived: Two Bodies Discovered In and Near Mississippi River in St. Cloud Sunday

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) – Police say first responders found two bodies at the Mississippi River in St. Cloud, but that investigators don’t believe the cases are related. St. Cloud Police Sgt. Jeffrey Janssen says police got a call from a person walking on the bridge Sunday about 12:20 afternoon about a person possibly on the ice.

The St. Cloud Times reports police and firefighters confirmed it was a dead woman on the ice south of the Granite City Crossing Bridge. This is the bridge on Highway 23 or Division Street. According to Janssen, police received a missing person call earlier in the day. They believe it’s the 21-year old woman they found on the ice. He says positive identification has not been made yet and her remains have been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Janssen says officers on the scene found a second body on the rocks. He says it was the body of an unidentified man and appeared to have been there for a substantial amount of time.
