Two men from Watkins died in a car accident in Litchfield Tuesday night.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 27-year-old Benjamin Tate of Paynesville was driving southbound on Highway 24, crossed the center line and lost control of his vehicle around 11:30 p.m. Tate’s vehicle hit a car headed northbound driven by 19-year-old Travis Monson from Watkins.

Sixteen-year-old Zachary Rohrbeck of Watkins was a passenger in Monson’s car. Both died at the scene of the crash. Another passenger, 16-year-old Kathleen Prestidge of Montrose, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the accident. Tate suffered only minor injuries.
