AVON, Minn. (AP) – Authorities are trying to find whoever shot and wounded a dog in central Minnesota.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says a man who lives about a mile north of Avon reported Monday he found the injured male yellow Labrador lying under a tree.

A deputy brought the dog to a veterinarian, who found the dog had been shot six times – four times in the face and twice in the hindquarters.

The veterinarian believes the shots were from a pellet gun. Several shots penetrated the dog’s muzzle and broke its jaw.

The dog was treated and is being housed by Stearns County. Authorities are trying to find out who the owner of the dog is.

Crime Stoppers and sheriff’s office are offering $1000 to any information leading to the arrest of the suspect responsible for abusing the animal.
