Men’s Hockey Splits with Western Michigan

This past weekend the SCSU men’s hockey team split with Western Michigan University losing Friday 7-5 and winning on Saturday 4-3.

On Friday SCSU started strong by tallying two power play goals in the first to help bolster them to a 3-1 lead after the first period. The tides shifted in the second with the Broncos scoring four times in the second to gain a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes. WMU would score their fifth unanswered goal on an empty net late in the game to lead them to the eventual 7-5 final.

Saturday was a different story as both teams seemed to trade goals back and forth throughout the game with the score being tied after both the first a second periods. Entering the third tied at 2-2, Mikey Eyssimont put the Huskies up by one on the power play. WMU’s Dawson DiPietro tied the game near the halfway marker of the third evening the game once again. Easton Brodzinski netted the eventual game winner with five minutes left to help SCSU force the weekend split.

Following the series SCSU moves to 14-4-3 overall and is 8-3-1 in NCHC play.
