The SCSU men’s hockey team split on the road in Duluth this past weekend against the Bulldogs of UMD.

On Friday the Huskies opened the game strong layering on pressure but a breakthrough by UMD led to a 3-0 lead for the dogs after one, UMD would also tally two shorthanded goals late in the second to make it 5-0. Ryan Poehling would score the lone SCSU goal in the third period of a game for the Huskies to forget.

On Saturday the Huskies looked better and more focused as a whole team sticking with the Bulldogs, racking up an impressive amount on time of attack after drawing multiple penalties in the game. UMD would find the back of the net first when Nick Swaney beat David Hrenak. Jake Wahlin, who was a healthy scratch in Friday’s game, evened the score at the halfway marker of the first period. After a scoreless middle frame and back and forth chances for both teams in the third, Patrick Newell swatted home a rebound following some heavy attack by SCSU.
