The St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer team opened the 2018 season with a pair of matches on the road in Michigan. The Huskies fell to Northern Michigan University 2-1 on Thursday, August 31^st. They bounced back to earn a draw two days later against Michigan Tech 2-2.

 

On Thursday vs. NMU, freshman defender Grace Butler earned State’s only goal in the contest. Butler is from Lakeville, MN and is looking to be a big impact to the Huskies 2018 season not only on the back line, but also in the offensive production.

 

The Huskies looked to bounce back after Thursday’s loss vs. NMU, and came out strong against Michigan Tech on Saturday. Senior forward Maria Kass scored a pair of goals within 7 minutes of the match, but ultimately it was Michigan Tech that came roaring back to tie the match at 2-2. The contest would go into overtime, with neither team finding the back of the net.

 

St. Cloud State finished the road trip to Michigan 0-1-1, but the tough schedule to 2018 does not end there. The Huskies travel to Warrensburg, Missouri to square off with #1 ranked Central Missouri in a big test. Central Missouri are the defending national champions, so St. Cloud State will have the spotlight on them when they battle Central Missouri who finished 23-0-0 last season along with the national championship crown.

 

The Huskies have a critical NSIC opening match against the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Sunday, September 9^th at 7pm.
