It takes over 1,400 miles and 6 hours to get from St. Cloud to the campus of Boston College. The men’s hockey team travels all the way out to the east coast this weekend to take on the top two Hockey East teams heading into this season.

This is the second of three long road trips and the first of two out to the east coast. The Huskies have frequented one east coast trip a season but two in a year is rare. The Huskies will also be out east for the Robert Morris Holiday Tournament in Pittsburgh.

The Huskies are ranked inside the top 3 and will battle against the Boston College Eagles this Thursday, Oct. 25, at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be live on ESPN3. On Saturday Oct. 27 the Huskies play the 18th ranked Northeastern Huskies, puck drop is set for 6 p.m. CT.

The Eagles come into the game sporting a 0-3-0 record and they run into Larson’s fiery hot squad that has picked up four wins in four games this season. Northeastern comes in with a 2-2-0 record The Huskies didn’t lose a game until Nov. last season and they will look to make that an ongoing tradition.

The last time the Eagles squared off with SCSU was almost exactly a year ago and the Huskies earned the sweep. The Huskies have not faced Northeastern in recent memory.

The Huskies are being led by an unlikely forward in senior Patrick Newell who has 4 goals and 3 assists. On the back end the Huskies are being paced by junior Jack Achan who has 7 assists, which is tied for second in the country.

Senior Jeff Smith and sophomore David Hrenak have split time in net so far this season and you should expect that to continue until one of them futures to an extreme.

BC has a strong goaltender who will play at the next level and a few strong forward but beyond that they are unproven. The scoring has not been there so far either. Players on BC to watch for are forwards junior David Cotton, who is off to a fast start, freshman Oliver Whalstrom and senior defensemen Casey Fitzgerald.

Northeastern lost strong offensive talent this off-season but retained one of the best young goaltenders in the country in sophomore Cayden Primeau. He can take over the game and give St. Cloud fits. Junior Jeremy Davies leads the defense and is primed to play at the next level. He did not play on Saturday last week and there is no news yet on if he will play this Saturday. He captains the back end offensively and would be a huge hole in the defense for St. Cloud to exploit. Freshman forward Tyler Madden is the top line center and has been burying the puck so far this year.

I expect the Huskies to be a little jet lagged but to pull out two victories this weekend. The Saturday night fight of the Huskies will be the closer of the two games but if barring Primeau playing out of his mind, the Midwest Huskies should be flying back undefeated.
