Archived: Husky Men’s Basketball Fall To Mavericks In Second Round 96-74

The St. Cloud State men’s basketball team struggled on Sunday against Minnesota State Mankato getting pinned 96-74. It’s hard to name the reason that it went south for the Huskies because there were a few areas they struggled in. As a team they committed 15 turnovers, were outrebounded 45-31, and shot 39% from the field and from outside. In addition they allowed 46 points in the paint, 51% shooting from the Mavericks, and gave up 23 free throw attempts.

Individually the Huskies were led in scoring by Scottie Stone who finished with 19 points in 7 of 14 shooting. Jordan Poydras was right behind Stone with 17 points on 5 of 24 shooting. Connor Niehaus went 5 of 9 from the field in his final game as a Husky and had 13 points. Eddie Alcantara rounded out the Huskies in double figures with a 10 points, 9 rebound performance.

The Mavericks finished with 6 players in double figures.

The Huskies finish the season with an 18-12 record (13-9 in NSIC) which marks the 20th straight season that the program has posted a winning record.

We here at KVSC want to say goodbye to their senior class for both the women’s and men’s basketball teams. We want to wish Carley Jeffrey, Eva Lampert, James Fort, Kevin Levandoski, Connor Niehaus, and Derrick Boone the best of luck both academically and beyond! We’re honored to have been able to cover your games this season.
