Archived: Governor Dayton Declares State Of Emergency Because Of Propane Shortage
Last week Governor Dayton declared a state of emergency for Minnesota’s propane supply.
According to a Stearns County, a hotline staffed with energy experts from the Minnesota Department of Commerce can provide central Minnesotans in danger of running out of heating fuel information and assistance with their propane situation. Residents with questions or in need of assistance can call 1-800-657-3504.
With the extremely cold temperatures Minnesota has experienced this winter, the propane supply has been dwindling since more and more gas is being used to heat Minnesotan’s homes.
Some tips for dealing with cold weather and the propane shortage are to try and conserve propane by not overusing your heat, conserve propane by turning down your thermostat. Another tip is don’t ever use gas ovens or kerosene heaters to heat your home because these produce deadly carbon monoxide. Also check in on neighbors, friends and relatives, especially the elderly.
