The St. Cloud State women’s basketball team got their rematch against the University of Sioux Falls in the first round of the NSIC Tournament on Wednesday at Halenbeck Hall. In last year’s first round contest the Cougars upset the Huskies 75-68 at Halenbeck but this time was different. The Huskies opened the game on fire and Karissa LeCaptain hit her first 6 shots to help the Huskies to a 38-35 lead at the half.

In the second period Sioux Falls put the pressure on the Huskies, going up 54-45 before head coach Lori Fish elected to switch from her man to man defense to a zone defense. She put Chelsea Nooker at the top of the zone and the sophomore absolutely took over the game. The Huskies forced several turnovers in a row to reclaim the lead and finish with an 87-76 win.

Chelsea Nooker finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals to lead the Huskies to the second round of the NSIC Tournament. They will play Wayne State College at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls on Saturday at 5:30pm.
