News broke midday Tuesday of Motzko stepping down after 13 seasons at the helm for SCSU’s men’s hockey program. In his tenure at SCSU, Motzko coached the Huskies to eight NCAA tournament appearances and three regular season conference championships with a final overall record of 276-192-49.

 

The Gophers’ head coaching slot became vacant this past weekend when Don Lucia decided to opt out of the final year of his contract after 19 seasons as head coach of Minnesota. This won’t be entirely foreign terrain for Motzko as he served as an assistant coach to Lucia from 2001-05.

 

No immediate names have been mentioned as candidates for the head coaching position at St. Cloud State, but expect to hear rumors within the coming days.
