Men’s Hockey Sweeps Boston College

Over the past weekend the SCSU men’s hockey team picked up two wins over Boston College at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

On Friday’s game the Eagles found the back of the net early in both the first and second periods to lead 2-0. Midway through the second, Kevin Fitzgerald and Jack Poehling would score minutes apart to even the game heading into the final period. In the final 20 minutes the Huskies scored on the power play twice and added an empty net goal with 30 seconds left for the 5-2 final score.

Saturday’s game saw the Huskies leap out to an early lead after a power play goal from Jack Poehling two minutes into the game. Ryan Poehling and Mikey Eyssimont would also put one past Eagle’s goaltender Joseph Woll to lead 3-0 after the first. After a scoreless second, Boston College got on the scoreboard after an impressive individual effort from Julius Mattila where JD Dudek banged a rebound sitting in the crease home. Boston College’s comeback hopes would be cast asunder by a strong defensive showing by the Huskies to pick up a 3-1 final and the series sweep.

With the two wins SCSU improves to 5-0-0 on the season and secure a consensus #2 rank nationally among both USCHO and USA Today polls. SCSU has this coming weekend off but return to the HBNHC the following Friday to kick off the NCHC season against the UMD Bulldogs.
