History Mystery: The History of Selke Field

In the debut episode of History Mystery, KVSC News Director talks with SCSU’s Archivist Tom Steman about the history of Selke Field.

The field was purchased on Aug. 22, 2025, by the Central Minnesota Youth Soccer Association, after the University put it up for sale in March 2025.

Selke Field was named after SCSU’s longest-serving president, George Selke. Commencement ceremonies were once held at the field in the 1940s, and was home base for several St. Cloud State University athletic events.

The field is widely known for its 3,000+ foot granite wall, which was built during the great depression.
