The FULL UNEDITED Untold Story of Tuscaloosa the Movie with Executive Producer Erik Helgeson

In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack takes us to the movies with a very unlikely journey.  KVSC alum Erik Helgeson was Executive Producer on the team that created the movie Tuscaloosa, an independent film shot entirely in Minnesota with a mostly Minnesotan cast and crew including a cameo by wrestler Baron “The Claw” von Raschke.

Tuscaloosa was set to premier in Beverly Hills on Friday, March 13, 2020, just as the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic was being realized, and suddenly Helgeson found himself in a situation where the entire country was shutting down around him as he journeyed back to Minnesota from California.

In this full, unedited interview Jeff and Erik talk about that journey as well as the movie itself, which is strangely poignant following the death of George Floyd, plus the future of the film industry in the age of COVID.  This version contains so many behind the scenes moments about film making, as well as general observations about the future of film, that the entire conversation merited podcasting.  It’s a long chat, so enjoy!

This program is funded in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Grant.
