The Untold Story of the Archeological Dig at the Warren and MacDougall Farmstead in Morrison County

In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, we travel way back in time to one of the original farmsteads in central Minnesota, the William W. Warren and MacDougall farmstead.  Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack joins SCSU Anthropolgy Professor Rob Mann and his class on the dig, which is just three miles west of Royalton about a half mile off Hilton Road.  Warren was the author of the History of the Ojibway People, and this area was once a crossroads of trade along the river and ox road with a blacksmith and post office.  The MN DNR is preparing for prairie restoration around the site, allowing for the further preservation of the area.

For those interested in a tour of the dig, the Morrison County Historical Society is arranging for groups to meet on Thursday and Friday, June 16th and 17th

This program has been funded through the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund and the Legacy Amendment.
