The St. Cloud State Football team wrapped up the 2017 season this past weekend hosting the Minot State Beavers. The Huskies dropped the season finale 23-13 and finished the season with a 6-5 record. Minot ended the year with a 3-8 record with all three of their wins coming on the road.

Once again for the Huskies turnovers greatly altered the outcome of this game. Dwayne Lawhorn had three interceptions on the day and two of them were returned for touchdowns. St. Cloud battled all game long and running back Curtwan Evans cut the Minot lead to 10-7 early in the second quarter. The Beavers would go on to score 13 unanswered points though and would up holding on to a 23-13 lead. This was St. Clouds first loss against Minot State in program history.

Dwayne Lawhorn passed for 277 yards on the day including 34 yards to freshman Tanner Teige. Teige also caught his first ever collegiate touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Senior Gary Koehring finished his last game strong as he accounted for 13 tackles on the day while 3.5 of them were tackles for loss. For the Beavers defensive back Kiante Goudeau had three interceptions on the day including two that he returned for touchdowns.

 

This was the final game for 14 SCSU seniors. Jerry Duckworth, Carvel Graham, Brady Westart, Jeremy Koffi, James Williams, Craig Szymanski, Nathan Snider, Gary Koehring, Bryce Johnson, Grant Lewis, Frank Garcia, Cole Otto, Trevor Naslund, and Ricardo Ramos. Many of these seniors were everyday starters for this Husky team and St. Cloud will have their work cut out for them next year. They will look to recruiting and younger players to fill the void. St. Cloud did finish this year above 500 and this Husky football team has reason to hang their head high.
