The St. Cloud State softball team came into the weekend eyeing an NSIC Tournament spot. To do so they needed to win three of their four games over the weekend.

The weekend started off strong with the Huskies picking up the 3-2 victory over Minot State. Jessica Goerger hit a homer in the 4^th inning to give the Huskies the win. However, the Beavers responded with three home runs in the second game of the double-header to gain the 6-5 win.

The standings were still very tight coming into Sunday’s double-header, but the Huskies knew that if they could get a sweep over the University of Mary they would assure themselves a slot in the NSIC Tournament.

St. Cloud State overwhelmed the Marauders in game one of the double-header behind a perfect game thrown by Kelly Franks. Franks pitched in all seven innings and recorded 17 strikeouts without surrendering a hit. The run support was also strong for the Huskies and they coasted to the 7-0 shutout victory.

Game two picked up right where game one left off with the Huskies getting three hits in their first three at bats to set up Jessica Goerger’s grand slam. The Husky defense only allowed four hits by the Marauders as they completed their sweep with a 5-1 victory.

St. Cloud State is the 8^th seed in the NSIC Tournament and will face the University of Sioux Falls on Thursday, April 30^th. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
