11-Run Fourth Paces #4 Huskies’ 19-0 Peacock Plucking
An 11-run fourth inning fueled #4 St. Cloud State’s (20-3, 8-1 NSIC) 19-0 wreckage of Upper Iowa (6-8, 3-6 NSIC) in Wednesday’s first game.
The 19-run outburst is a new season high.
Mat Meyer (4-6, 3 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI), Caeden Harris (3-3, BB, 4 R, 2B, 2 RBI), Mitch Mallek (2-4, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI), Najee Gaskins (2-5, R), and Ethan Ibarra (2-3, BB, 2 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI) produced multi-hit efforts. Toran Shahidi added four RBI on a 1-3 afternoon.
Cal Giese earned his second win of the year, cruising through 4.0 shutout innings of two-hit, one-walk baseball and punching out four. Riley Ahern (1.0 ip, H, K), Zach Siggelkow (1.0 ip, H, 2 K), and Zach Iten (1.0 ip, 2 K) each fired an inning of scoreless relief to seal the shutout.
Relievers Matt Butler and Ryan Wesely picked up their first collegiate hits while pinch-hitting in the seventh.
