#14 Huskies Fall to Missouri S&T 9-3

#14 St. Cloud State (5-1, 0-0 NSIC) fell to Missouri S&T (4-2, 0-0 GLVC) by a 9-3 final on Monday evening, put away by two big Miner outbursts.

S&T scored four runs in the first and three in the fifth, each inning keyed by  Keegan Baxmeyer (3-4, HR, 3 RBI) and Tim Lira (3-4, 3 R, HR, 4 RBI) three-run home runs.

All three Huskies runs came in the fourth on a two-out, two-run single from Caeden Harris followed by an RBI single off the bat of Toran Shahidi.

Shannon Ahern threw fairly well, but a handful of poorly executed pitches led to 7 runs, 6 earned over 4.1 innings on 6 hits. The lefty struck out 5 while taking his first loss of 2019.

Matt Osterberg covered the next 2.2 innings, allowing two earned on 6 hits and a walk while striking out four.

Redshirt-freshman Riley Ahern made his collegiate debut, working around a base hit and striking out one to fire a 1-2-3 eighth with an inning-ending double play.

Miners starter Dalton Erger received his second win of the year after going 6.0 innings of four-hit ball, surrendering the three earned while walking three and striking out 6.

SCSU heads to the Tucson Invitational next over March 4 to March 10, with all games covered live on the KVSC Sports Stream.
