#15 Huskies Take Down Kato 12-4

After an exciting opening round victory against Minnesota Crookston on Thursday. St. Cloud State would try and advance in the NSIC Tournament on Friday. The Huskies would matchup against (2) Minnesota State Mankato for a chance to play in the semifinals.

St. Cloud State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Matt Myer singled and Caeden Harris homered. Ty Buck helped get Mankato back in the game by tying the game at 2-2 with a home run in the 4th inning. Matt Myer would add his 2nd RBI of the game in the 5th inning after flying out. Mankato would take the lead in the 6th inning, thanks to hits by Tory Miller and Ty Denzer.

The Mankato lead wouldn’t last long as St. Cloud State would go on to score 9 unanswered runs in the final 3 innings, scoring 4 runs in the 7th and 5 runs in the 9th inning. The Huskies would go on to win the ballgame 12-4 over Mankato.

First Baseman, Matt Myer and Designator Hitter, Lenny Walker both would go 3-5 at the plate, and both drive in 4 RBI’s. Aaron Hammann went 3-4 with 2 walks as well.

Blake Flint got the start for the Huskies, pitching 5.2 IP, giving up 6 hits, striking out 5, and giving up 4 earned runs. Lefty pitcher Shannon Ahern came in relief of Flint and pitched 2 scoreless innings. Matt Butler finished off Mankato by pitching the final 1.1 IP, while striking out 3. Shannon Ahern got the win in relief for the Huskies. Ahern improves to 3-2 on the year.

Five Mankato pitchers were needed in the loss, Jon Ludwig got the start, and pitched 5 complete innings, while only allowing 2 earned runs. Hunter Even got the loss, as Even pitched 1.1 innings and gave up 3 hits, 2 walks, and 3 earned runs.

(3) St. Cloud State now advances to play (1) Augustana on Saturday, where in winner will move on to play in the championship game on Sunday. The loser will play again on Saturday against the winner of (4) Minot State / (8) Winona State. All of the St. Cloud State games can be heard live on the KVSC Sports Stream.
