Archived: St. Cloud State Sweeps Huntsville
SCSU’s men’s hockey remains undefeated after another road sweep this weekend. The team travelled to Nic Dowd’s hometown Huntsville, Alabama to take on the Chargers of the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
The Huskies pounded on the goals Friday night as they skated to a 10-0 victory. Eight different Huskies scored in the game. The ten goal margin of victory tied the schools record of ten goals set in 2005 when the team played in Yale. Rookie goaltender Charlie Lindgren earned his first collegiate victory and shutout.
Saturday’s contest was much closer but the Huskies prevailed by a final score of 4-3 to bring home the sweep. It was the third consecutive road sweep. SCSU reamains undefeated on the road this season and moves to 8-1-1 on the season.
Fifteen different Huskies appeared on the score sheet over the weekend as they outshot the Chargers 89-26. Cory Thorson charter three goals and two assists to each the NCHC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The team returns home for a conference series with Colorado College this upcoming weekend. The Huskies moved up to #2 in both USCHO poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey poll, this is the highest the team has been ranked since 2007. Both games can be heard on 88.1 FM KVSC with Gina Carlson and Declan Goff. Carlson will be the first female to broadcast a men’s hockey game on KVSC. Following the game on Saturday night fans are asked to participate in the attempt to break the Fake Mustache Record on the ice after the conclusion of the game. Read more about the attempt here.
