The SCSU men’s hockey team showed the home crowd an offensive explosion on Saturday night. The Huskies tamed the Tigers 6-2 in front of a crowd just over 4,500. St. Cloud State got things started off early in the game when Andrew Prochno scored at the 1:32 mark to make it 1-0. The Huskies never looked back Nic Dowd scored a pair of goals in the victory, one on the power play. The Huskies outshot the Tigers 25-22. The victory extended SCSU’s unbeaten streak to five games.

Friday’s game ended in a 2-2 tie after regulation. Jonny Brodzinski scored a power play goal in the first period. The Tigers answered back with their own power play goal before the buzzer would signal the end of the first. Niklas Nevalainen scored for to give SCSU the lead again mid-way through the second frame. The lead was short lived as Colorado College notched an even strength goal to tie things up agin. Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie, the team skated overtime with no goals. The Tigers scored the lone goal in the shoot out to earn the extra conference point. The game marked just the second time the Huskies have been outshot all season. CC lead shots Friday night 33-32.

Andrew Prochno netted a goal and two assists with a +4 ranking to earn him the NCHC Defensive Player of the week honor. Despite the stellar weekend for the Huskies they remain at #2 in USCHO polls this week. St. Cloud State recieved more first place votes than Minnesota but, the Gophers remain in the top spot. The Huskies have a bye this weekend before heading to Duluth to take on the Bulldogs Dec. 6-7. Listen to that series on 88.1 FM.
