Archived: Big Lake Man Suffers Frostbite After Fleeing Scene Of Drunken Crash
A crash into a power pole led a Big Lake man to run barefoot from the scene Friday, suffering severe frostbite in the process.
The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office says just after midnight on Friday 28-year-old Jonathan Michael Schinzel was driving his pickup truck north on County Road 5 in Orrock Township when he drove off the road and into the east ditch, where he hit a power pole.
The power pole fell over, causing at least one home in the area to lose power while blocking nearby traffic.
Schnizel was seen running from the scene by a witness. He was found three blocks away walking barefoot and was arrested. He is suspected of being drunk when the crash occurred.
Due to walking barefoot, Schinzel’s feet were suffering from severe frostbite, and he also had a head injury. He was taken to North Memorial Hospital for injury treatment.
