Crowd Gathers To Convince State Senator to Help Pass HF5 Bill
There’s an important bill making its way through the House, and people are gathering to let a local Senator know.
The Minnesota AFL-CIO says many St. Cloud residents gathered at Paddy’s Game Shoppe in downtown St. Cloud to call on State Senator Jerry Relph to help get the HF5 bill passed. Also called the Paid Family & Medical Leave Bill, it’s passed through all relevant house committees, but has struggled to gain traction in the state Senate.
As the name suggests, the bill would provide paid medical leave, including for pregnancies and family emergencies.
Paddy’s Game Shoppe owner Gino Marinaro said, “This bill would make it affordable and easy for me or any other business owner to provide leave to employees or take time for our health and families if we should need it.”
Legislation is continuing to head towards its May deadline. If the bill doesn’t get through Senate, it may face several roadblocks to get passed.
