A St. Cloud man was shot in the head on Tuesday in an alleyway in northeast St. Cloud.

The St. Cloud Police Department says they received a report of a gunshot in the 400 block of Wilson Avenue Northeast just before 9:30 p.m. Officers arrived at the scene to find a handgun and controlled substances in the alleyway between Wilson and 5th Avenue Northeast. No one else was at the scene.

Officers say it appeared that a fight broke out in the ally. The original caller had reported several people running from the scene after the gunshot was fired.

Officers set up a perimeter and were able to find a 25-year-old St. Cloud man with a gunshot wound in the head just two blocks away from the crime scene. The man, despite the wounds, was conscious and able to move. He was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital and is in stable condition.

The case is being investigated and it does not appear to be a random incident.
