#4 Huskies Swept in Extras by RV Augustana

#4 St. Cloud State (21-5, 9-3 NSIC) struggled to situationally hit against RV Augustana (18-7, 11-1 NSIC), leading to the Huskies dropping both games of Monday’s two-game series.

SCSU fell 4-3 in an 11-inning game-one dogfight, hitting just 2-10 with runners in scoring position. The Huskies crawled back from an early 3-0 deficit, as ace Dominic Austing (3.0 ip, 11 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 K) surrendered a career-high 11 hits and was chased in the fourth. Shannon Ahern fired 4.0 scoreless innings of relief, scattering one hit and two walks while striking out 4. Blake Flint went the final 4.0 frames, striking out three. Augie first baseman Jordan Barth cracked a solo home run in the top of the eleventh to give the Vikings the lead.

Game two became a seven-inning regulation game due to the first going into extras, but the two storied programs again needed more innings to decide the game. The Huskies ultimately fell 5-3 in nine innings, as Vikings reliever Thomas Bruss diced over 5.0 innings of two-hit relief, striking out four.

The Huskies meet Wayne State at home on Wednesday for a two-game midweek series, with start times to-be-determined. Both games can be heard live on the KVSC Sports Stream.
