Archived: Angry Driver Brake Checks Car On Interstate Before Rear-End Crash

An angry driver pulled in front of an SUV on Interstate 94 before brake checking them, causing a crash on Thursday.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the SUV, driven by 45-year-old Michael Raymond Leclair of Maple Grove, was driving east in the left lane on the interstate in Otsego when a car began to tailgate him aggressively. The aggressive driver passed Leclair in the right lane before cutting in the left lane and braking. This caused Leclair to have to brake to avoid the tailgater, but caused a second car driven by 25-year-old Tanesha Rennett Gillett to rear-end Leclair’s SUV.

Leclair told authorities that the aggressive driver got out of his car and started yelling before leaving the scene.

Gillett and her passenger, 25-year-old Carlie Bonita Stepaniak, were both taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Leclair was not injured.
