An Avon firefighter was injured after a fire broke out at a home in Collegeville Township on Wednesday.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call about a possible fire just before noon. The Avon Fire Department was also paged to the fire.

When responders arrived, smoke was coming out of the house in multiple places. The owner of the house, 74-year-old Bruce Dickau of St. Joseph, confirmed that there were no people or pets inside the burning building.

While fighting the flames, 34-year-old Avon firefighter Paul Ruegemer was injured. He was sent to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
