The body of an 86-year-old Rice man was found in a burnt field in Brockway Township on Monday.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report about the body shortly after 3 p.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that 86-year-old Edwin Opatz of Rice was burning the pasture land on the same day his body was discovered. His remains were sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be done.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. The investigation is still active.
