Bullpen Backs Austing, #9 Huskies Sweep Golden Bears 5-2

#9 St. Cloud State’s (24-6, 12-4 NSIC) bullpen blanked Concordia-St. Paul (17-15, 8-12 NSIC) by a 5-2 score in support of a stellar Dominic Austing bump, sweeping their Northern Sun foes.

Austing went 5.0 innings of four-hit ball, allowing two earned with a walk and 9 strikeouts. The ace piled up 15 swinging strikes on 94 pitches, pounding the zone at a 72.3% strike rate.

Sheldon Miks earned his first hold by covering the next 2.1 innings, walking one and striking out three. Matt Butler earned his third save by retiring all five men he faced, punching out two.

SCSU struck with a big second inning for the second time in the series, plating four unearned runs. Matt Quade lofted a sacrifice fly to right, then Lenny Walker brought in three on a two-out, bases-loaded bloop single after a grueling 11-pitch at-bat.

Dylan Haskamp smoked a run-scoring single to right in the third, wrapping up St. Cloud State’s scoring.

The Huskies return to action this weekend against Minnesota-Duluth, with game times and dates pending due to the impending Thursday blizzard.
