Archived: Day of the Dead Celebration St. Cloud State

St. Cloud State University will be celebrating more than just Halloween at the end of October.

The university says the M.E.Ch.A (Movimiento Estudiantil Chincanx de Atzlán)of SCSU will host the celebration of Dia de Los Muertos, otherwise known as "Day of the Dead."

"Day of the Dead" is a celebration practiced in Mexico and many parts of the United States in honor of the dead. The theme for this year’s celebration is "Remembering Student Activists." Several altars will honor fallen student activists who died helping their communities.

Attendees are invited to present offerings for the dead prior to the ceremony. Traditional offerings include food such as dried bread and candy and items such as photos and candles.

The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, October 31 in the Atwood Ballroom at the Atwood Memorial Center at 5 p.m. Altars will be located in the Heritage Lounge in between the Ballroom and the Cascade Room.

Everyone is welcomed to attend.
