Iowa Jeff

                1. When did you get involved with 88.1 FM?

November of 2003. Just freshly escaped from Iowa again, I was driving around and cruising the channels then heard the phrase “community radio” come from this station at 88.1 FM. I knew I was home!

      2.  What show(s) do you currently host on KVSC and what programs have you hosted in the past?

Over the years I've hosted Insomnia Heaven, Granite City Rock Cafe, lots of Morning Shows, and Diversions.  I also work at KVSC as the Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer where I make radio in the form of the Arts and Culture Collage, the Untold Stories of Central Minnesota (around 300 episodes), and the Granite City Radio Theater (now in its 11th season!).  Plus, there are numerous weather updates with Eddie, the Weather Hound.

       3. Please list some of the artists and musicians you consider to be a must play on your show(s)?

The Grateful Dead, William Shatner, Surahoolies, Willie Nelsen, Dagobah, . . .

       4. Why are you involved with independent community radio at 88.1 FM?

Community Radio is one of the primary foundations of public voice. I’d listened to and respected community radio in other parts of the country (WWOZ in New Orleans and KGNU in Boulder) and after moving here, I decided to try it and it stuck. It stuck like a tattoo!

       5. What is in your personal CD player, iPod, or mp3 right now (BE HONEST)?

Charlie Roth Broken Ground; Feelin Band, The Sacred Play of Life; and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Up From Below.

       6. Please disclose the most embarrassing music moment or concert you’ve attended or album you’ve bought (perhaps even shameful)?

I’ve got a thing for Meatloaf’s Bat Out of Hell and once played an album side on my show. I didn’t have a problem with it, but my friends kept calling me to see if it was over. I mean, come on! Who doesn’t like Meatloaf?!

       7. What are your hobbies and interests?

kayaking, music, trouble, theater, trivia, reading, and laughing

       8. When you are not at work or KVSC, where can you most likely be found?

In a time machine stealing stock tips from the future.  Water.  Invest in water!

       9. If it were the end of the world and you could only take five things with you, what would they be (BE HONEST)?

Take things with you to where? End of the world, dude . . . all you got is who you were.

     10. What do you think is the future of radio?

It will stay the local public voice with support from the people who understand its importance. As more and more people realize that the majority of their information and entertainment is coming from marketing focus groups in either New York or Los Angeles, I think they will choose to support the local voice. We just gotta make sure more folks know that we speak pretty, too!
