Archived: Elk River Man and Woman Killed In Crash On Highway 169

Two people were killed in a high-speed crash on Highway 169 on Sunday.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a minivan driven by 77-year-old Stanley Albert Swen of Elk River was attempting to cross over the southbound lanes of the highway in Elk River when a pickup truck driven by 42-year-old Wesley Michael Cemenski of Princeton struck the van as it tried to cross.

As a result of the crash, which happened just at around 5:30 p.m., both vehicles went off the road and hit a sign before coming to a stop on a completely different road, 221st Avenue NW.

Swen and his passenger, 68-year-old Victoria Lynette Swen of Elk River, died at the scene. Cemenski was taken to Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
