Failed Burglary Ends With Self Inflicted Knife Wounds

A man wielding a machete attempted to rob an apartment in east St. Cloud Monday afternoon.

St. Cloud Assistant Police Chief Jeffrey Oxton says officers were dispatched to a possible burglary in the 1800 Block of 15th Avenue Southeast just before 5 p.m.

There officers found 20-year-old Trevor Lee Cluever of Brainerd in the parking lot with multiple self-inflicted knife wounds to the neck and chest. inside they found a 21-year-old women with minor injuries.

Cluever had met with the victim in the apartment lobby and pulled out a machete and struck the woman in the wrist and shoulder. She was able to escape into her apartment. Cluever then began to cut himself in the parking lot where officers found him.

The victim was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Cluever was arrested and was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for serious injuries and was booked to Sherburne County Jail on charges of 1st degree burglary, Felony Assault, and Domestic Assault.
