An altercation at St. Cloud’s Walmart turned into a gun being drawn between two customers inside the store.

Assistant Chief of Police Jeff Oxton says just after 5 p.m. Sunday evening, 60 year-old Mark Daniel Gibbs of Luverne got into an altercation with 50 year-old Richard Allen Waagen of Randall inside Walmart located on 33rd Avenue South. The dispute escalated causing Waagen to draw his handgun.  

Authorities say Waagen did have a license to carry permit. It was later revealed Gibbs also had a handgun but did not have a permit to carry. Authorities say he tried to dump the handgun before officers arrived.

Officers on the scene say the incident may have stemmed from Gibbs’ daughter parking in a no-parking zone in the lot.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Both men were taken to Stearns County Jail and the investigation is ongoing.
