The St. Cloud State football team dominated the Golden Eagles from Minnesota-Crookston Saturday night for a 38-0 win.

To begin the scoring, Huskies quarterback Dwayne Lawhorn bursted his way into the end zone to break the scoreless tie pushing the Huskies lead to 7-0 in the first quarter. Adam Stage knocked through from 30 yards out after a Crookston turnover giving St. Cloud State a 10-0 lead.

Wasting no time in the second half, St. Cloud State quickly drove the ball 65 yards down the field leading to a Joe Blando touchdown run. The next offensive drive saw the Huskies go 59 yards setting up a rushing touchdown to Curtwan Evans. Back to back scoring drives propelled St. Cloud State to a 24-0 lead early in the 3rd quarter.

Sophomore running back Paris Howell worked for two rushing touchdowns as well in the quarter ultimately erasing any chances for a Crookston comeback. As a result, Minnesota-Crookston had no answer and St. Cloud State would well earn a shutout at home and their second win of the season 38-0 over the Golden Eagles.

SCSU improves to 2-0 to begin 2019 while the Golden Eagles fell 0-2 after a frustrating result Saturday night.

Defensively, the Huskies stifled the Golden Eagles holding the opponents to just 114 yards of total offense. The St. Cloud State defense tallied seven sacks and a forced fumble. Therefore leading to the first shutout for the program since 2016, when SCSU beat Minot State 31-0.

St. Cloud State’s offense showed consistency in the win, going 8-of-17 on third down conversions as well as 5-of-6 in the red zone. Taking care of scoring opportunities gave UMC no hope when the chances arose for the Huskies offense in the second half. 399 yards of total offense was balanced between a strong rushing attack along with big plays through the air.

Next week marks the famous “Battle for the Bone” rivalry, as St. Cloud State hits the road to take on #13 Minnesota-Duluth. Coverage on KVSC 88.1fm begins at 5:45pm September 21st for the rivalry battle, as Collin Rutkowski and Drew Steele will bring you the call live from Duluth.
