#9 Huskies Shovel Snow, Rake Bulldog Pitching in 6-2 Win

#9 St. Cloud State (25-6, 13-4 NSIC) spent most of Saturday clearing snow and ice off the field in Mauston, but saved the raking for their evening game-one victory over Minnesota-Duluth (8-21, 6-13 NSIC).

Three Huskies posted multi-hit games while the team pounded out 10 hits.

Caeden Harris (2-4, R, 2B, HR, RBI) belted his first home run of 2019 to tie the game at 1-1 in the second after an Eric Yachinich long ball in the top half of the frame.

UMD retook the lead on a Tim Pokornowski solo shot in the third, and Bulldog ace Rece Dietrich held the Huskies at bay until a big four-run fifth blew the game open.

Najee Gaskins (2-3, 2 R, 2B, 3B, RBI) tripled in Ethan Ibarra with two outs to begin the inning’s outburst. Lenny Walker clubbed a double off the left field wall to bring home Gaskins, then Mitch Mallek clobbered a two-run blast to right.

SCSU added their sixth run as Gaskins smoked a one-out double in the seventh and later scored on a wild pitch.

Cal Giese earned his 20th collegiate victory with 5.0 innings of two-run ball, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out three. Shannon Ahern saved his second game of the year with 4.0 scoreless innings, racking up three strikeouts, scattering four hits and a walk.

The #9 Huskies and UMD wrap up their series at noon and 2:30 p.m. on the KVSC Sports Stream on Sunday, with both games found on the KVSC Sports Stream.
