Huskies Sweep Away U-Mary

After dropping 2 of 3 games against Northern State over the weekend #14 St. Cloud State
(34-9, 22-7 NSIC) added a pair of wins against U-Mary (16-29, 12-20 NSIC) on Wednesday to get back on track.
SCSU defeated UM 1-0 in a pitcher’s dual in the first game of the double header. Second baseman, Aaron Hammann hit a RBI sacrifice fly to bring in Caeden Harris for the only run of the game.
Senior pitcher Dominic Austing threw a complete game shutout while striking out 7 and only allowing 2 hits. Austing would remain undefeated moving to 7-0. U-Mary’s pitcher Jonathan Draheim would also only allow 2 hits, but give up the 1 lone run in the loss.
In the second game of the double header, St. Cloud State would once again rely on their pitching in the victory over UM, 4-0.
The Huskies would jump on U-Mary pitcher Daniel Turner early in the 1st inning, scoring 2 runs thanks to Aaron Hammann hitting an RBI single. Catcher, Toran Shahidi hit an RBI sacrifice fly to allow Mitch Mallek to come in and score to give SCSU an 3-0 lead. Shahidi would double later in the 7th inning to bring in another run to add to the Huskies lead, 4-0.
That would be enough for lefty pitcher, Matthew Osterberg as the Sophomore would pitch 6 strong innings, only allowing 2 hits and striking out 7. Matt Butler would close it out in the 9th inning to give SCSU the 4-0 victory. Matthew Osterberg would improve to 5-1 on the season and St. Cloud State would move to 36-9, 24-7 NSIC.
St. Cloud State will travel to face Southwest Minnesota State (10-25, 9-21 NSIC) for a 3-game series starting on Friday at 1:30 PM. All the games from this series can heard live on the KVSC Sports Stream.
