St. Cloud State Volleyball split weekend matches

10/11/19 – MSU Moorhead 0 – #11 St. Cloud State 3

A straight sweep for the Huskies Friday night over Minnesota State – Moorhead in Halenbeck Hall earned the squad their sixth win in NSIC play.

Both the first and second sets ended in dominant scores of 25-13 in favor of the Huskies. Erin Navratil was solid for the SCSU attack with 13 kills, while Linsey Rachel followed close with 11 kills.

Set number three saw SCSU fall into a early 5-1 deficit. The Huskies would respond with a back to back kills making it 5-3, then running away with the set with 9 straight points extending the lead to 12-3. MSUM showed some fight back in the final set, but ultimately SCSU was able to complete the sweep winning 25-22.

Senior libero Clara Krenz moved her way up the St. Cloud State volleyball record books Friday night. Her 15 kills Friday night in the win over Moorhead moved her to second on the teams all-time digs list with a total of 1886 in her career. Krenz needs 41 digs in her final year as a Husky to overtake the top spot held on the record list.

10/11/19 – #8 Northern State 3 – #11 St. Cloud State 2

With all eyes set on a top-10 matchup Saturday afternoon at Halenbeck Hall, St. Cloud State fell in heartbreaking fashion to the #8 ranked Northern State Wolves 3-2.

The opening set featured a strong back and forth battle between with 18 tied scores and 8 lead changes. Linsey Rachel found clutch points late in the first set with back to back kills pushing the Huskies to the 25-23 win. Before that, Rachel collected a three point serving run to make it 20-17 earlier in the set.

After watching the Wolves run away with the second set, the third set provided much drama. St. Cloud State took their first lead of the the third set at 24-23. A Maddy Torve block late in the set led the Huskies to prevail to a 30-28 set 3 win and a 2-1 lead in the match.

Northern State took the fourth set narrowly 25-21 then did not allow St. Cloud State any momentum in the 5th decisive set to win the match 3-2.

Linsey Rachel posted another strong outing with 21 kills, while Chloe Dousette also tallied 15 kills in the match.

St. Cloud State next travels to Crookston Minnesota to take on the Golden Eagles on October 15th at 6pm.
