Kayak Overturns In Rapids Near Sauk Rapids Bridge
Two kayakers traveling down the Mississippi River had a scary situation after the kayak they were traveling on capsized near the Sauk Rapids Bridge on Sunday.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they heard about the capsizing just before 11:40 a.m.
Twenty-three-year-old Leo Johnsen of Sauk Rapids and 23-year-old Anna Rosburg of Cambridge were kayaking when their kayak entered the rapids and tipped over. Rosburg was able to make her way out of the rapids and towards the shore. However, Johnsen became trapped in a hydraulic whirlpool and was pulled underwater multiple times.
Two kayakers witnessed the kayak overturn and one of them was able to help Johnsen to shore.
Rosburg was tracked down walking near 6th Avenue North and was treated at the scene. Johnsen was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for minor injuries .
